Witness – James Nachtwey

James Nachtwey is one of the founders of the VII Photo Agency (in 2001) and as Wikipedia states “an influential American photojournalist and war photographer”, who has worked for the Time Magazine since 1984, was associated with Black Star from 1980 – 1985 and was a member of Magnum from 1986 until 2001.

I was introduced to James Nachtwey in 2004 due to the film War Photographer, in which Nachtwey’s work is covered and shown. A selection of his photos can be seen at James Nachtwey’s homepage Witness, in which he portraits the reality in this world, giving those a face and a voice that weren’t heard or seen before.

I count James Nachtwey, both in his way of photography and his ideals in this genre, as one of my inspirations.
