Macau Migrant Workers / Housing Allowance

The accommodation allowance is merely MOP500 and the number should be readjusted to a reasonable level,ā€ she argued, adding that a great majority still only receive MOP2,500 as a salary, a number lower than the subsistence index of MOP3,450.

The Macau Daily Times has an article on the situation of migrant workers in the wake of recent migrant worker demonstations in Hongkong on the case of abuse and torture. The above mentioned figure of MOP500 as a housing allowance is the minimum law-required housing allowance in Macau, which however is by far too low to provide for any kind of suitable accomodation.
